40,000 people will have to move to provide electricity to millions of people. This is certainly shitty news, but this isn’t the good vs. evil confrontation you would make it out to be.

Can you justify that? I realize this is a really sad situation. In an ideal world such a thing would never have to happen. But tell me: could you leave without heat, without electricity? I assume that since you’re posting on the internet you’re aware that your computer was likely made by people who are paid very little, and some type of environmental damage has been inflicted in order for it to be made and for you to use it. A computer is by no means a life necessity, but that’s a tradeoff you’re willing to make.

I can only assume that they’re not forcing people off this land in order to be evil. They’re doing it because it’s the viable method to build a power plant — and they would not build such a costly project were it not necessary. Also, according to some very cursory research, Brazil has a very environmentally friendly and sustainable energy program.

Can people just lay off the kneejerk reactions to every story that tugs at the heart strings? I realize that people on Tumblr like nothing more than calling people fucking scum to satisfy their instinctive need for putting themselves above others, but can you just stop to think about this for a second?
